Chap Goh Meh

A night for throwing tangerines, eating bubur chacha and the final day of Chinese New Year. It's a night of romance, the Chinese version of Valentine's Day. In Hokkien, it litterally means the 15th night of Chinese New Year. It has become customary here in Penang that unmarried women will gather at Gurney Drive to toss tangerines into the sea, in hope that their future spouse will pick it up. While women use tangerines to find a good husband, the drum is meant for men to find good wives. Please don't ask me why but it was probably chosen because in Hokkien, it rhymes with wife. Another variation that makes more sense is the apple.

Time does fly. In just a few blinks of the eye, Chinese New Year is over. I hope you all had a great time! Dahvid, maybe you could try throwing your guitar in the Klang river in hope your future spouse finds it? ;)
