In Search Of Inspiration

Although this blog has been in existence for four years, it doesn't feel like an achievement compared to previous anniversaries. In fact, it feels more like a failed year if anything.

Statistics, like Shakira's hips, don't lie. A mere 25 blog entries throughout one whole year is a little more than depressing. It's plain pathetic. Needless to say, readership tanked. Apart from loyal followers (thank you all for still being around), most have moved on to more interesting blogs, and rightly so.

Latika's Theme From Slumdog Millionaire

by A.R. Rahman

"Latika's Theme" - Original Soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire deservedly won 8 of the 10 Academy Awards it was nominated for. I was fortunate to watch it before the 2009 Academy Awards and truly experience the movie without prejudice. Everytime I hear this love song, I get all emotional. The movie really was that moving and the theme songs just add to the feel of the movie. Hope you enjoy the song as much as I do.

I'm Yours

by Jason Mraz

"I'm Yours" music video by Jason Mraz

I love this song a lot. I used to come home from a busy day at work, tired and all, but all the fatigue, worries and headache goes away once I listen to this song. It made me feel all happy inside and all my troubles seem to just melt away. It became my drug. My daily fix. The first thing I did when I came home was to play this song everyday. The song worked wonders for me.

And just when I thought that song couldn't ever be any better, I heard this!

The Way I Am

by Ingrid Michaelson

"The Way I Am" music video by Ingrid Michaelson

If you were falling, then I would catch you.
You need a light, I'd find a match.

Cuz I love the way you say good morning.
And you take me the way I am.

If you are chilly, here take my sweater.
Your head is aching, I'll make it better.

Cuz I love the way you call me baby.
And you take me the way I am.

I'd buy you Rogaine if you start losing all your hair.
Sew on patches to all you tear.

Cuz I love you more than I could ever promise.
And you take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.

My heart melts everytime I listen to this song. Not only do I enjoy listening to the lyrics which are so meaningful, I love the musical arrangement done on this piece that makes it so acoustic. I'm a sucker for such music. I can literally put everything down at that very instant, close my eyes and absorb every ounce of the audible orgy that is emitted through those speakers. Fortunately, I've never heard Fly FM play this or any of Ingrid Michaelson's songs while I was driving. :P

Her songs have found its way into well-known series such as Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill too. No wonder I love watching these shows that little bit more than the rest. The songs that they manage to include so seamlessly into certain episodes make it that much more pleasurable to watch. It actually sets the tone for certain situation which makes you feel as if you're part of the show. Grey's Anatomy may not be as great this season but with such great music, it is still very much bearable.

I'm not exactly sure what genre this music falls into. I guess some people call it indie-pop or alternative music but I like to refer to them as elevator music or the ones you will hear in a cafe or bistro. I mean it in a good way when I say it sounds like elevator music, in a serene and classy way. If I would to open a cafe or bistro, this would be the type of music I will play along with musical pieces by Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Norah Jones and the likes. I can see myself sipping on some tea or coffee, with a good novel in my hand, on a beautiful afternoon and all these music playing in the background. Lovely, isn't it?

In fact, this is the type of song I would like to be played during my wedding reception rather than having loud amateur singers causing irreversible deafness to all my guests. Yes, I've done some planning for my future wedding, mostly what to do's and what not to do's. Not like I'm walking down the aisle anytime soon. :P

Didn't you find the music video cute and interesting too? Well, I did. Just love the part where the kids clapped their hands in sync with the music. Alright, the clowns can be a little scary but let's focus on the good stuff here, shall we? The song may be a little short but it's definitely one you will cherish every second of. Trust me, you'll be hooked after listening to it just once! Well, I did. ;)

Leaving On A Jet Plane

by Chantal Kreviazuk

"Leaving On A Jet Plane" music video by Chantal Kreviazuk

Just love this song especially this version by Chantal Kreviazuk. Just the right song to leave you all with while I'm gone. Yes, I'm leaving on a jet plane at this very moment. I'm off to Sabah - The Land Below The Wind! I'll be trying my very best to conquer South East Asia's highest peak, Mount Kinabalu among other exciting activities lined up for my one week trip there. I don't know if I'll be able to update my blog while I'm there although they claim to have broadband internet at the lodge that I'll be staying in. However, I'll keep you updated through my Jaiku postings sent on my mobile phone every step of the way! Wish me luck people!

Don't Gimme More Of Britney's Piece Of Me

"Gimme More" music video by Britney Spears

It's Britney, BITCH! She's not exactly having a great time at the moment, what with losing custody of her kids, having to visit a shrink, seeking help for her drug and alcohol addiction/abuse and who knows what other nonsense she got herself into. She's becoming like the female version of Michael Jackson with her wacky ways!

But it's not all of those stuff that I'm focusing on. It's her bread and butter that I wish to discuss here - her music and her dancing. Her latest releases is not that bad really. In fact, they are quite catchy tunes. However, it really tells you so much about a person when they have to start the song by introducing themselves in the most crude way possible. What's more, you have the nerve of calling yourself the legendary Miss Britney Spears?!? What are you legendary for? Messing up your great life?

"Piece Of Me" music video by Britney Spears

She's known for her choreography too and by looking at these two music videos, you know she's lost it. Sure, she just gave birth to her child not so long back and everybody understands that but maybe that's what everyone is trying to say to her, stay on in your maternity absence until you are ready to perform again! Don't come out half-baked and looking like a walrus trying to shake all that unsightly flab around. You're just killing your image and spoiling the appetite of millions of fans.

I enjoy listening to her latest songs but everytime I hear them, I'm reminded of this horrid performance of hers at the 2007 VMA presentation. Remember, it is a VIDEO MUSIC award presentation and she definitely chose the wrong time to make her comeback especially looking like that, dressing like that and performing like that!

Now that is something you really want to forget! No, Britney...I don't think anyone wants more of you right now. You have definitely given us TOO much of yourself for our liking. I don't think anyone wants a piece of you either at this moment in time. Please excuse me as I run over to Tesco to grab myself some much needed Clorox to wash all of that out of my brain!

With You

by Chris Brown

"With You" music video by Chris Brown

Just can't get this song out of my head at the moment! A really lovely song from the one they call the next Michael Jackson (as in dancing phenomenon MJ rather than Wacko Jacko MJ). This fellow can really dance. It's such a waste he was only in the movie "Stomp The Yard" at the beginning before his character got killed so soon into the movie. Even with that cameo appearance, he showed some really nice moves that was simply mind-boggling. Just look at him work his legs and body! Just amazing. If the moves in the music video is not enough fodder for you, sample a scene from his debut movie.

He really has a good voice too apart from good rhythm and good moves. A few of his songs are doing pretty well at the moment. I'm coming to enjoy his work alot. Excuse me as I sample more of his music and dance moves.

Now That You Got It

by Gwen Stefani feat Damian Marley

"Now That You Got It" music video by Gwen Stefani

Gwen tries her vocal chords in some reggae music for this one. I think she did quite well, don't you think so? This collaboration with Bob Marley's youngest son, Damian Marley looks like a huge success to me. It's simply contagious! This is exactly the song that I need to have my head bobbing to at the moment.

I'm in real need of some upbeat, happy and sunshiny music like this one (I don't need anymore exposure to sunshine though as I'm getting way too much of it at the moment from the weekly torture). I just feel as if I'm just moving along with the currents, being swept from left to right, front to back, quite aimlessly. Things just seem to be zooming my way too much and too fast. I'm able to manage thus far but I don't know for how much longer. I hope I can hang on long enough.

For the time being, I'm depending on huge doses of such songs to keep me going especially when there's no new episodes of Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Prison Break, 30 Rock and other series I follow until next week at the very least.

Thank You

by Roger Moore

"Thank You" music video by Roger Moore
I just wanna tell you what I'm thinkin'
someting from the heart from me to you
how I feel inside it's hard to see it
but I want to show my gratitude

Coz there's nothing that I wouldn't do
to try to show my feelings
I just want to tell you face to face
you're the reason I'm here singin'

Wanna thank you
for never ever loosin' faith
I just wanna thank you
for always tryin' to keep me safe
Coz I just wanna show my thanks and gratitude
you never stopped believin'
wanna thank you
for never ever loosin' faith
I sing for you

You're the one who never stop believin'
when I thought that everything was through
you inspired me to live my dreams and
understand that they can all come true

I just wanna show
that I really know
who is gonna be there through the highs and lows
this is something I truly believe
you helped me to find what is my destiny
this is how I feel for real

Just wanna say thank you to everyone who made today extra special. As if it wasn't already special enough! :P To all those who wished me a happy birthday, this song is for you. Thank you all for remembering, thank you for all the greetings, thank you for the cards, thank you for the gifts, thank you for everything. I hope all of you had a wonderful day. Have you noticed? It didn't rain today! Even the sun came out for me. ;)

The Way I Are

by Timbaland feat Keri Hilson & D.O.E.

"The Way I Are" music video by Timbaland

This is one song I'm very fond of at the moment. I really find the musical arrangements done by Timbaland to be works of wonder. Maybe he has the music world equivalent of the Midas Touch or something because everything he touches now seems to turn to gold. Take this song for example, what a great hit it is. Why they don't play this more often at clubs and pubs, I cannot understand.

So far, every song released from the Timbaland Presents Shock Value are hits. It is fair to say he successfully transformed the bird-girl-wannabe Nelly Furtado from someone who sings really whiny, I'm high on drugs songs to a real entertainer that can really hold the attention of her listeners. Ask any teenager that loves her current hits like Give It To Me and Promiscuous if they knew she's the same crazy chick that sang I'm Like A Bird. They'll probably shake their heads in disbelief. I'm sure you yourself can see the improvement from her hippie chick, tree hugging, Tweety Bird days.

Tweety Bird

Even Justin Timberlake has benefited from collaborating with Timbaland. Do you actually believe he can bring SexyBack all by himself? Please...it's the sexy man behind his back that made it all possible. Wait a minute, that didn't sound right. Oh heck, you know what I mean.

I would really like to know what magic he can conjure with other artistes. Seriously, if he can transform a cuckoo like Nelly Furtado, he can do it to anybody. On second thoughts, maybe not. There's just no hope for this guy.

Earth Song

by Michael Jackson

"Earth Song" music video by Michael Jackson

What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain

What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine

Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we've shed before
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores?

What have we done to the world
Look what we've done
What about all the peace
That you pledge your only son

What about flowering fields
Is there a time
What about all the dreams
That you said was yours and mine

Did you ever stop to notice
All the children dead from war
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores

I used to dream
I used to glance beyond the stars
Now I don't know where we are
Although I know we've drifted far

Hey, what about yesterday
What about the seas
The heavens are falling down
I can't even breathe

What about apathy
I need you
What about nature's worth
It's our planet's womb

What about animals
We've turned kingdoms to dust
What about elephants
Have we lost their trust

What about crying whales
We're ravaging the seas
What about forest trails
Burnt despite our pleas

What about the holy land
Torn apart by creed
What about the common man
Can't we set him free

What about children dying
Can't you hear them cry
Where did we go wrong
Someone tell me why

What about babies
What about the days
What about all their joy
What about the man

What about the crying man
What about Abraham
What about death again
Do we give a damn

Do you realise Earth is not in a very good shape at the moment? It has not been for awhile now and it's getting even worse with every passing second. While our neighbouring countries have taken steps in the right direction such as drastically reducing subsidies for petroleum products to help curb wasteful usage of this polluting and non-renewable energy, and introducing tax rebates to promote the use of green cars, we are still naive in protecting our oil and gas, and automobile industries.

How about purchasing hundreds or thousands of newspapers just to get a contest entry form that is no larger than a quarter of a page? How many trees have fallen just so you could increase your chance of winning? A student of mine just asked me very recently, do we have that many trees to print all that newspapers everyday? Of course thanks to recycling efforts, we can reduce the number of trees that end up as pulp but there's still the chemical used in the deinking process that is not exactly kind to the environment. So what do you do when you win the prize money? Any thoughts given to the environment you've ravaged just to participate in the contest? In the end, all of us are losers when we neglect the environment time and again.

Open burning is still a major issue in this part of the world, what with the Annual Indonesian Haze and all. The haze is even more consistent than the menstrual cycle. Without fail, it will pay a visit to its neighbouring countries the same time every year, choking the lungs of millions. My neighbours just love to start a nauseating bonfire every now and then. Instead of following in their footsteps, I choose to bury my garden waste instead.

There are many things we can do to improve the Earth's state of health. Walk, cycle or take public transport instead of starting up the car. Recycle and reuse, we already don't have enough land to go around for residential, industrial, commercial or recreational purposes, what more landfills. Discard harmful materials in the proper manner, lest the toxic materials come back to haunt us. Change your lightbulbs to more energy efficient ones and ensure the next time you purchase an electrical equipment, it is an energy efficient model.

These are just a few simple steps you can take to make a difference. There are many more things we can do to save the environment. So, what are you doing about the situation?

You Raise Me Up

by Josh Groban

"You Raise Me Up" music video by Josh Groban

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary
When troubles come and my heart burdened be
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence
Until you come and sit awhile with me

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up, to more than I can be

This song is dedicated to all the champions that came to lift my spirits the past few days, by chance or intentionally. I believe that certain things happen for a reason and God send angels to your aid when you need them most. In fact, we have guardian angels all around us. They may seem like syaitans or devils but in actual fact, they are angels in disguise. We just don't know who they are until they come running to your side to help you pick up the pieces. It may be an unexpected email, a short instant message or a surprise outing, whatever it is all played a part. For this, I feel blessed to have them around. This song is for you all.

Big Girls Don't Cry

by Fergie

"Big Girls Don't Cry" music video by Fergie
La, da, da, da
The smell of your skin lingers on me now
You're probably on your flight back to your hometown
I need some shelter of my own protection baby
To be with myself in center, clarity, peace, serenity

I hope you know, I hope you know
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal, myself and I
We got some straightening out to do
And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket
But I've gotta get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
And big girls don't cry
Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry

The path that I'm walking, I must go alone
I must take the baby steps till I'm full grown, full grown
Fairy tales don't always have a happy ending do they
And I forsee the dark ahead if I stay

I hope you know, I hope you know
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal, myself and I
We got some straightening out to do
And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket
But I've gotta get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
And big girls don't cry

Like a little school mate in the school yard
We'll play jacks and Uno cards
I'll be your best friend and you'll be my Valentine
Yes you can hold my hand if you want to
Cos I wanna hold yours too
We'll be playmates and lovers and share our secret worlds
But it's time for me to go home
It's getting late and dark outside
I need to be with myself in center, clarity, peace, serenity

I hope you know, I hope you know
That this has nothing to do with you
It's personal, myself and I
We got some straightening out to do
And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket
But I've gotta get a move on with my life
It's time to be a big girl now
And big girls don't cry
Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry

La, da, da, da, da, da
Simply beautiful, this song. I'm not such a fan of Fergie's previous songs such as London Bridge and Fergalicious but this one I simply find it hard to get out of my head. She has definitely come full circle from her Wild Orchid and Black Eyed Peas days with this song. Based on her previous releases from her Duchess album, who would have thought she was capable of this? I was really amazed that she sang this song so flawlessly considering it is quite different from the hip-hop genre that she has become accustomed to lately.

This video also serves as a good fix for all Heroes (particularly Peter Petrelli) fans until the next season starts in about a month or so. The actor playing Peter Petrelli, Milo Ventimiglia is featured in this video. I really know what girls see in this guy. Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura) or Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli) I understand but Milo?!? I don't see no charisma in him. Would someone please enlighten me on this? :P
